PRESENTATION

WEST COAST U18’s STATE TEAM

At the Australian Futsal Association National Championships held in Sydney in January 2015 West Coast Futsal Association were represented by an U18s Team. They were placed within the Youth U21 category. During the Group games the U18s played five games recording 3 wins of 3:2, 4:2 and 10:2 and 2 defeats of 8:2 and 9:1 to finish 3rd in the group. This meant they qualified to play in the quarter finals of the Youth category and as they were the best placed U18s team went straight into the U18s final.

The youth quarter final was a hard fought and fast paced game for the whole match. With the score at 4:4 with a couple of minutes to go the team from NNSW Central Coast nicked a goal to seal the victory at 5:4. After three days of intense futsal the West Coast boys were hurting and had less than 24 hours to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the U18s final.

The U18s final against Victoria Country was played at the same intensity as the Youth quarter final. With the scores level of 2:2 at half time both teams came straight out looking goals to secure the win in the second half. Unfortunately the West Coast boys conceded two goals, but with a change of tactics pulled back two goals to bring it back to 4:4. In the closing minutes both teams were going for the win to avoid extra time and the dreaded “Golden Goal”. With seconds to go the Victorians snatched a late winner to seal the victory 5:4.

The West Coast U18s should be very proud of what a young team, average age of 16 years old has achieved. This team has the potential to be together for the next four years in the Youth category and without doubt be a very competitive team in future National Championships.
