19/09/11 Futsal courts at Hollywood are near completion

The home of West Coast Futsal Association is near completion. Construction at the unused Hollywood-Subiaco Bowling Club green was delayed for 5 weeks due to the wet weather. Late August, construction commenced and this week saw the final stages of the courts construction. It has been a long 6 week process with the final product in our sights.

Futsal, Portuguese for futebol de salao which is five a side soccer. Futsal is played with two teams of five players, one of which is a goalkeeper, on a court of similar size to a basketball court. Futsal is played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular soccer ball. The ball forces a player to use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to move it. The rules create an emphasis on creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in confined spaces.

The game of Futsal  is fast, fun and can be played by anyone of any age and skill level.

Competitions for both juniors and seniors will commence mid October, with the official opening to be held mid November.

Monday – 8/9 years, Men’s A, Men’s B & Social Mixed
Tuesday – 10/11 years, Women’s & Men’s A
Wednesday – Kindy Futsal, 6/7 years, 16/17 years, Men’s B & Men’s C
Thursday – 12/13 years, 14/15  years, Men’s A & Men’s B
Friday – Men’s Fast 4
