16/11/11 Hollywood Futsal Club – Launch

The biggest futsal event in Western Australia 2011! A selection of the Australian Men’s team was invited to play an exhibition match against SFL Allstars which included a selection of  players from the premier division of the State Futsal League. I was very honoured to play a part in the action on the day, along with my other Hammond Park State Team mates such as Diego Garcia, Kenny (GK), and Tiago. The match was organised as part of an opening ceremony for the newly developed Hollywood Futsal Club who will be hosting and supporting the futsal culture in Perth and Australia.

The Mayor of Nedlands, Max Hipkins officially starts off the event by taking a penalty kick which was saved by the Australian goalkeeper, Kieran Pates and the Red Bull girls sponsors the players with their lovely energy and that drink that gives you wings, the match of the day was under way.

The first 10 minutes, both teams started the game off conservatively. Just before half time the Allstars started to put lots of attacking pressure on there more experienced counterparts with their energetic Red Bull build up and was rewarded the goal that shook the Australian side.

Second half, the game started to really open up, where both teams were attacking with intent to show the crowd what the skilled futsal game was all about. Plenty of neat fast passes, nut megs, powered shots and lighting saves (nice one by Kenny) were on display. With the Australians looking to bounce back pushing numbers forward came at a cost leaving gaps in the defense that the Allstars could explore, and they sure did that, bagging another 4 straight! Leaving the Australian team heart broken for any chance of a come back. The game finished up a comfortable 5-0 win for the SFL Allstars.

I am sure, the next time we meet, they will not take us as lightly as they did, as we have clearly proved that our multi-cultured playing background have made us a strong and unpredictable force.

Now that the exhibition match is over, the afternoon was open for the Muita Calma cup, which included many teams from the WA Futsal league, combining both division 1 and premier league teams.

After an all day battle in the gorgeous sunshine, the smell of Luke’s sausage sizzle and nice up beat music, the finalists were Hammond Park Stars and the host, Muita Calma. Muita Calma took the lead at around the half point of the game (no break 15 min match), while Hammond Park pushed to equalize, Muita Calma’s striker was able to strike the ball powerfully passed our keeper Steve to the top left making it 2-0. Hammond Park was down but not out, equalizing a minute later with a nice right foot strike on the left from Tiago. But time was our enemy as the end concluded at 2-1. Muita Calma, the deserving winner.

What an amazing day to be with friends and people who shared the love for the round ball game. I wish West Coast Futsal the very best for its prosperity. Thank you again for all the people who organised, joined, refereed, coached, played, scored, saved, watched, supported, cooked, cleaned, shouted, ate etc. I’m sure next year will be bigger and better. Until then if you want more Futsal, the action continues at the Saturday premier league and division 1 Futsal league at Melville Recreation Centre. From 11 am  Saturday November 19th 12.40pm will be a game not be to miss as Hammond Park will try to take revenge on Muita Calma in a full game battle.
